Winter in the Northern Black Forest — snow, calm & Fasnet anticipation
Snowy forest paths, clear cold and the quiet off-season on the Biet plateau — winter around Schellbronn and Neuhausen (Enzkreis).
In winter the Northern Black Forest grows quieter. On the Biet plateau near Schellbronn snow falls occasionally — not as reliable as higher Alps, but often enough for snowy pines, clear air and short walks without crowds.

Forest trails from the door or towards Hamberg and Steinegg reward sturdy footwear. In thaw the paths are muddy; in frost steps crunch in the woods and mist rises from the hollows. Hohe Warte and viewpoints in the Pforzheim city forest offer wide views over a snow-covered Biet when skies are clear.

Indoors it stays cosy: A-frame house, fireside feeling, early darkness. Winter suits focus weeks, reading days and short outings instead of packed sightseeing — calm, with no crowded ski resorts nearby. When it turns cold, ice skating at Polarion in Bad Liebenzell (about 20 min.) is a regional classic — or swimming at Stadtteilbad Huchenfeld (about 15 min.) when the wave pool in Schellbronn is closed.
From January Fasnet wakes in the Biet: rehearsals, crafting, anticipation of Schellbronn's night parade. Winter guests see the village at its most authentic — not as a summer pool destination, but as a living hillside community.
Bring warm clothing, layers and maybe micro-spikes. Roads can be icy; check the weather. Winter is not a luxury promise — it is forest, air and calm in the colder months.
